Repatriation from Turkey to Moldova
If someone close to you has died in Turkey, we help bring them home to the Republic of Moldova and take care of the documents and the journey.
- Issuing authority and document
- Turkey and Moldova are both parties to the Strasbourg Agreement. According to Turkey's declaration, the laissez-passer is issued by the doctor of the local municipality or, where there is none, by the provincial doctor.
- Transport
- As a rule, by air; in some cases, by road. The mode of transport and the handover point in Moldova are agreed with the family case by case.
- Timing
- We confirm the timeline once we have the documents. It depends on the local authorities, the Moldovan consulate where it is involved, and the transport available.
- Price
- Body (repatriation of remains): from 1 000 €
Ashes (urn): from 800 €
Country status under the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Transfer of Corpses: per the Council of Europe list (archived 20.05.2014) and the Netherlands treaty database; checked 11.10.2026.
Procedure
Both Turkey and the Republic of Moldova are parties to the Strasbourg Agreement on the Transfer of Corpses (1973). The body therefore travels with a mortuary passport (laissez-passer) issued in Turkey. Under the agreement, the country of destination may not ask for other documents beyond the laissez-passer and the usual transport documents.
The pages of the Moldovan consulates in Turkey also mention a customs certificate confirming that the coffin contains only the deceased, and a power of attorney when the applicant is a more distant relative. We check which of these apply to you and prepare them in advance.
Required documents
Usually needed: the Turkish death record, the passport of the deceased, the documents of the applicant, the certificates of the funeral service and, in some cases, a power of attorney. We confirm the list for your city.
