Repatriation from Niger to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Niger to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in Algiers. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Niger are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Niger
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Niger always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Niger are authenticated by legalisation if a Polish office asks for it (the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Niger: handled from Algiers
Niger comes under the Polish Embassy in Algiers, which covers Algeria, Chad and Niger. There is therefore no Polish consul on the spot in Niger, and the application for the certificate goes to another country. With such distance the most important thing is to put the documents in order before sending, because every missing stamp lengthens the case by further shipments.
The Algiers embassy's page concerns its own procedure, so whether the requirements and the fee are the same for Niger we confirm in your case. In the same way we confirm the local office that registers the death and permits removal of remains. We prepare a complete set of documents from the place of death, keep in contact with the embassy and organise transport to Poland. We also recommend that the family read the current MFA warnings for travellers to this country before anyone decides to travel.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the consul of the mission named on gov.pl: the Polish Embassy in Algiers.
How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
Frequently asked questions
