Repatriation from Cameroon to Poland

We organise bringing the deceased from Cameroon to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.

Issuing authority and document
Certificate: the Polish consul confirmed in your case. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
Transport
The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
Timing
The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Cameroon are collected.
Price
We will quote the price once we know the details.

Procedure: Cameroon

Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Cameroon always requires the Polish consul's certificate.

Documents from Cameroon are authenticated by legalisation if a Polish office asks for it (the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).

Cameroon: the embassy in Abuja

Cases from Cameroon are handled by the Polish Embassy in Abuja, at 10 River Niger Street, Maitama. Its district also includes Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Togo. The consulate arranges visits by email and accepts documents in person or by post. If the consul refuses, he issues a decision, against which a complaint can be lodged with the Minister of Foreign Affairs within 7 days, through the consul. The certificate is collected in person or sent by post.

Under the embassy's instructions, a body must be secured in a carefully soldered metal coffin with an absorbent layer, placed in a wooden crate, as confirmed by the funeral home. For ashes, the funeral home certifies a sealed, damage-resistant container. We gather the documents on both sides of the border and organise the transport. We confirm the detailed requirements of this country's authorities on enquiry in your case.

In Cameroon there is a Polish honorary consulate in Yaoundé, listed among the honorary consulates attached to the Polish Embassy in Abuja. However, the Polish diplomatic mission in Yaoundé was suspended in 1981 for budget reasons, and the ambassador in Abuja is also accredited to Cameroon. The certificate for bringing a body to Poland is therefore still issued by the consul in Abuja, not by the honorary consulate in Yaoundé. Documents from Cameroon are legalised, because the country does not use the apostille. We collect them locally, prepare the application for Abuja and organise the flight to Poland. Whether the honorary consul in Yaoundé can help in your case, we confirm individually before starting any formalities, and the family does not need to travel to Nigeria.
