Repatriation from the Republic of the Congo to Poland

We organise bringing the deceased from the Republic of the Congo to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.

Issuing authority and document
Certificate: the Polish consul confirmed in your case. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
Transport
The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
Timing
The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from the Republic of the Congo are collected.
Price
We will quote the price once we know the details.

Procedure: Republic of the Congo

Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from the Republic of the Congo always requires the Polish consul's certificate.

Documents from the Republic of the Congo are authenticated by legalisation if a Polish office asks for it (the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).

Republic of the Congo: we confirm the post in your case

The website of the Polish Embassy in Luanda lists the Republic of the Congo in its bilateral relations menu, together with Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, the Central African Republic and Sao Tome and Principe. It does not, however, state directly that Luanda handles consular matters for the Congo. We confirm the competent Polish post for this country in your specific case. Before documents are submitted we check that copies and stamps are complete, and we inform the family of every step.

The order of steps is always similar. First a local document confirming the death, usually a medical certificate and the local authorities' consent to take the remains out of the country, then in Poland the starosta's permit, followed by the consul's certificate. With the full set of documents we arrange air transport of the body or the urn and collection in Poland. We guide the family through these stages and make sure every document is produced at the right moment. We clarify the detailed requirements of this country's authorities for your specific case on request.

Poland has never had a mission in Brazzaville. Diplomatic relations at embassy level were established in 1972, and after the embassy in Kinshasa closed at the end of 2008, the Republic of the Congo came under the Polish Embassy in Luanda. The Republic of the Congo has no diplomatic mission in Poland, and entry visas to the country are issued by its embassy in Berlin. This matters if a family member wants to travel there, because the visa must be arranged in advance. A death certificate from the Congo needs legalisation. We handle the documents on the Congolese side and the contact with Luanda, and nobody from the family has to travel anywhere for the application to be submitted. We discuss a possible visa for relatives with you in the first conversation, so that no time is lost.
