Repatriation from Guinea to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Guinea to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in Dakar. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Guinea are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Guinea
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Guinea always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Guinea are authenticated by legalisation if a Polish office asks for it (the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Guinea: the embassy in Dakar and a district of eight countries
Guinea belongs to the district of the Polish Embassy in Dakar. The embassy's gov.pl page lists eight countries: Senegal, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Cape Verde and Côte d'Ivoire. So we never confuse Guinea with Guinea-Bissau or with Equatorial Guinea, which belongs to another embassy, the one in Abuja. We make sure documents from Guinea reach the right embassy, because the names of neighbouring states are sometimes confused on paperwork.
Remains are flown to Poland through a specialised company, and an urn follows the airline's rules. In practice the order is: a death certificate from the local hospital or authorities, embalming or cremation, consent for export, the flight, and on the Polish side the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate. We confirm the detailed requirements of this country's authorities on request, for your case.
Poland recognised Guinea on 28 October 1958, and diplomatic relations were established on 29 June 1959. The embassy in Conakry operated from 1960 to 1981, and an honorary consulate in Conakry functioned from 1993 to 2013. The Ministry pages describe no active Polish post in Guinea today, and the country falls under the Polish Embassy in Dakar. Documents from Guinea require legalisation, because the country does not use the apostille. We collect them in Conakry, prepare the application for Dakar and organise the flight to Poland. Whether local authorities can help with the permit to take the body out of the country, we confirm in your case, and the family does not need to travel to Senegal.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the consul of the mission named on gov.pl: the Polish Embassy in Dakar.
How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
