Repatriation from Cape Verde to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Cape Verde to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in Dakar. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Cape Verde are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Cape Verde
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Cape Verde always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Cape Verde are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Cape Verde: an archipelago served from Dakar
Cape Verde lies in the Atlantic, and the affairs of Polish citizens there are handled by the Polish Embassy in Dakar. The embassy's gov.pl page lists this country among the eight states it covers, together with Senegal, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali and Côte d'Ivoire. The archipelago consists of many islands, so at the start we establish which island the body is on and where flights depart from.
There is no land connection, so remains or an urn travel by air, often with a connection that must be agreed with the carrier before departure. We usually proceed in this order: a death document from the local authorities or hospital, preparation of the body or cremation, consent for export, a flight booking, and on the Polish side the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate. We confirm the detailed requirements of this country's authorities on request, for your case.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the consul of the mission named on gov.pl: the Polish Embassy in Dakar.
How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
