Repatriation from Guinea-Bissau to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Guinea-Bissau to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in Dakar. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Guinea-Bissau are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Guinea-Bissau
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Guinea-Bissau always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Guinea-Bissau are authenticated by legalisation if a Polish office asks for it (the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Guinea-Bissau and the embassy in Dakar
Guinea-Bissau is covered by the Polish Embassy in Dakar, which serves eight countries in total: Senegal, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Cabo Verde and Côte d'Ivoire. This embassy's honorary consulates operate in Serrekunda in Gambia, in Abidjan and in Praia, but none is in Guinea-Bissau. The case of the deceased is therefore run from Dakar, that is, from a neighbouring country.
For that reason we plan from the start for documents to travel between countries and for contact with the consulate in Dakar. Whether the requirements for Guinea-Bissau are the same as for Senegal we confirm in your case before the family sends anything. In the same way we confirm the local office that registers the death and permits removal of remains. We organise assembling the documents and transport to Poland.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the consul of the mission named on gov.pl: the Polish Embassy in Dakar.
How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
