Repatriation from the Seychelles to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from the Seychelles to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish consul confirmed in your case. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from the Seychelles are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Seychelles
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from the Seychelles always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from the Seychelles are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Seychelles: the honorary consul and Nairobi
On the page of the Polish Embassy in Nairobi, the bilateral relations list shows Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, Somalia and Uganda. We confirm the post responsible for this country in your case. The embassy's list of honorary consulates includes a consulate in the Seychelles, but gives neither the city nor the scope of its matters.
The Seychelles are an archipelago, so the distance from Nairobi and between the islands affects how and when documents reach the consul. We do not assume that the certificate can be obtained from the honorary consul on the spot. We agree with the embassy how papers are to be sent, we make sure the local death documents and the approvals for removing remains or ashes are complete, and the office in the Seychelles that issues them we establish in your case. We also organise contact with the post and transport to Poland.
Seychelles has the shortest deadline: a death is declared at the civil status office within 24 hours. Two informants are needed, and a medical certificate must be obtained first. If it cannot be obtained, the informants contact the police first. Identity cards of the deceased and of the informant are required. The office issues the death certificate and the burial permit, and no burial or cremation may take place without registration. On working days the offices are open from 8:00 to 16:00, on Saturday a standby officer is available from 8:30 to 14:00, and on Sundays and public holidays from 9:00 to 12:00. We make sure two informants and the full set of documents are ready within that deadline, and we organise the further contact with the consulate and the transport ourselves.
