Repatriation from Djibouti to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Djibouti to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish consul confirmed in your case. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Djibouti are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Djibouti
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Djibouti always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Djibouti are authenticated by legalisation if a Polish office asks for it (the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Djibouti: the Polish Embassy in Addis Ababa
Djibouti falls under the Polish Embassy in Addis Ababa. That post also serves Ethiopia and South Sudan. The appointment at the consular section is arranged by email, and documents can be submitted in person or by post. The application requires the starosta's permit from Poland and a document confirming the death.
We arrange the death document in Djibouti and handle the correspondence with the embassy so that the application arrives complete. The family does not have to travel to East Africa: the documents can be sent to the embassy, and the certificate can be sent by post at the applicant's cost. If the remains are not brought home, the consul asks the local authorities for a burial under local law. Once the documents are ready, we take on the preparation of the remains and the transport to Poland, together with collection on arrival and the funeral ceremony the family plans. We clarify the detailed requirements of this country's authorities on request in your case.
The Polish consul's certificate

How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
