Repatriation from Botswana to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Botswana to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish consul confirmed in your case. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Botswana are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Botswana
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Botswana always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Botswana are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Botswana falls within the Pretoria embassy's district
Botswana belongs to the district of the Polish Embassy in Pretoria, which also covers Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Consular Section is at 14 Amos Street in Colbyn. The date is set by email, and documents can be submitted in person or by post. If the consul refuses, he issues a decision, against which a complaint can be lodged with the Minister of Foreign Affairs within 7 days, through the consul. The certificate is collected in person or sent by post.
The application is filed by the person entitled to arrange the burial or by their representative, for example a funeral home employee, with the power of attorney in the original. A specialist firm carries a body, while an urn after cremation can be taken by any means of transport; for cremation the embassy asks for a certificate from the crematorium. We organise the remaining formalities. We confirm the detailed requirements of this country's authorities on enquiry in your case.
