Repatriation from Yemen to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Yemen to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in Riyadh. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Yemen are collected.

Procedure: Yemen
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Yemen always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Yemen are authenticated by legalisation if a Polish office asks for it (the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Yemen: the highest warning level and the embassy in Riyadh
According to its gov.pl page, the Polish Embassy in Riyadh covers Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Oman. The same embassy has published the Ministry's recommendation to avoid all travel to Yemen, including the island of Socotra. This is the highest warning level, so we do not advise the family to travel there. We support the family in contacts with the embassy in Riyadh so that nothing has to be arranged on site.
We run the formalities on the Polish side, that is the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate, remotely. Remains or an urn must be flown with the help of a specialised international transport company, and flight options depend on the situation in the country and the region, so we check every route on the day of planning. Before setting dates we read the current Ministry notice and only then propose a plan.
