Repatriation from Iran to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Iran to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish consul confirmed in your case. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Iran are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Iran
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Iran always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Iran are authenticated by legalisation if a Polish office asks for it (the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Iran: Polish MFA warning and the Embassy in Tehran
Consular matters in Iran are handled by the Polish Embassy in Tehran. The appointment is arranged by email to the secretariat, and documents are submitted in person or by post. In a notice of 25 February 2026 the Polish MFA strongly advises against travel to Iran and calls on Poles staying there to leave immediately.
The ministry warns that leaving may be impossible, for example because of closed airspace or borders, and that contact with the post and consular help may be considerably hindered. Before every step we therefore check the current MFA notices and whether the embassy is accepting applications. We collect documents so that the family does not have to travel to Iran. The consul does not cover costs and does not decide for the family on the manner of burial. At the end we take care of the carriage to Poland, contact with the cemetery and the date of the funeral, so that the family decides only on what matters most to it.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the Polish consul competent for this country. We confirm the mission in your case.
How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
