Repatriation from China to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from China to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in Beijing or the Polish Consulate General in Shanghai, Guangzhou or Hong Kong, depending on the province. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from China are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: China
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from China always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from China are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
China: which consulate applies depends on the place of death
In China the certificate is issued by the Polish consular office responsible for the place of residence, and the list of posts is given on the Polish mission's website. The appointment is arranged by email with the chosen consulate. The fee is taken in cash in local currency: as a rule in yuan, and at the Consulate General in Hong Kong in Hong Kong dollars.
The site has a Chinese-language version, but the application and requirements are in Polish. We establish which consulate will handle the case and obtain the death document from the local authorities, so that the family does not have to look for the right office itself. If the family does not bring the remains home, the consul asks the authorities for a burial under local law. After the consul's certificate, a funeral home prepares the remains for transport, and we organise carriage to Poland, collection on arrival and burial at the cemetery chosen by the family. We clarify the detailed requirements of this country's authorities on request in your case.
