Repatriation from the Maldives to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from the Maldives to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.

- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in New Delhi. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.

- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.

- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from the Maldives are collected.

Procedure: Maldives
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from the Maldives always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from the Maldives are authenticated by legalisation if a Polish office asks for it (the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Maldives: the embassy in New Delhi
The Maldives fall within the competence of the Polish Embassy in New Delhi. The same district covers India, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Visits are arranged by email, and the application is submitted in person or by post.
In the procedure of the posts in India, besides the permit from Poland and the death document, a certificate of the local sanitary authority appears, stating that the death was not caused by an infectious disease and that transporting the remains to Poland is permitted. The description concerns India, and the Maldives appear on the page only in the menu, so we do not assume the requirements are the same. We organise finding out which sanitary office and which documents the Maldivian side requires, contact with the consulate, cooperation with a funeral home and the transport to Poland.
