Lebanon: the embassy in Beirut

In Lebanon the case is handled by the Polish embassy in Beirut; the visit is arranged by telephone, and documents can be filed in person or by post. For the consul's certificate the permit of the starosta or city president is needed, together with a copy of the death certificate or another document confirming the death. The consul issues it promptly, no later than three days after the application is filed.

When the family does not bring the remains to Poland, the consul asks the local authorities to bury the deceased under local law, usually in a public cemetery at the local authorities' expense. The consul takes on no financial obligations and does not decide for the family on the method or place of burial.
