Repatriation from Malaysia to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Malaysia to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Malaysia are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Malaysia
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Malaysia always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Malaysia are authenticated by legalisation if a Polish office asks for it (the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Malaysia: JPN and the embassy in Kuala Lumpur, which also covers Brunei
In Malaysia deaths are registered by the National Registration Department (JPN) under the Ministry of Home Affairs. JPN handles ordinary and late registration of a death, and in every case we check with the JPN office how to report the death of a Polish citizen. We check copies of documents from Malaysia for complete data before they reach the embassy, and we agree the visit date by email in advance so the family does not wait longer than needed.
Polish matters are handled by the Polish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, which according to its gov.pl page covers Malaysia and Brunei. A visit about the certificate is arranged by email to the consular section, and the application can be submitted in person or by post. Remains or an urn travel by air. On the Polish side the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate are needed.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the consul of the mission named on gov.pl: the Polish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
