Repatriation from Laos to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Laos to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in Bangkok. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Laos are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Laos
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Laos always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Laos are authenticated by legalisation if a Polish office asks for it (the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Laos: the Embassy in Bangkok and local authentication
Laos falls under the Polish Embassy in Bangkok, which also covers Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar. The embassy's page requires the original death document authenticated by the local ministry of foreign affairs, and a funeral home statement on cremation and sealing of the urn, or on securing the body and sealing the coffin.
The embassy advises that for an insured deceased the insurer should be notified first, and it will arrange a funeral company. Without insurance a funeral home with a local partner in the region is needed, one that will obtain the death record and complete the formalities. The appointment is arranged by email, and documents can be submitted in person or by post. We organise these steps in Laos and in Poland, including the starosta's permit. Once the documents are ready, we take on the preparation of the remains and the transport to Poland, together with collection on arrival and the funeral ceremony the family plans.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the consul of the mission named on gov.pl: the Polish Embassy in Bangkok.
How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
