Repatriation from Bhutan to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Bhutan to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in New Delhi. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Bhutan are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Bhutan
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Bhutan always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Bhutan are authenticated by legalisation if a Polish office asks for it (the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Bhutan: the case goes through New Delhi, one embassy for several countries
Bhutan has no Polish post. According to the gov.pl page, the Polish Embassy in New Delhi has territorial jurisdiction over India, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives, and its consular section serves the same countries. It is one embassy for several states, so when a case is reported from Bhutan we give it all the required details at once. We bear in mind that the embassy serves many countries at once, and plan contact with it in advance.
The country lies in the Himalayas, far from Poland, so remains or an urn travel by air and the international part is handled by a specialised company. The usual order is a death document from the local authorities, preparation of the body or cremation, consent for export, the flight and, in Poland, the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate. We confirm the detailed requirements of this country's authorities on request, for your case.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the consul of the mission named on gov.pl: the Polish Embassy in New Delhi.
How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
