Repatriation from Syria to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Syria to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.

Procedure: Syria
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Syria always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Syria are authenticated by legalisation if a Polish office asks for it (the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Syria: an embassy seated in Beirut
The Polish Embassy in Damascus operates from a temporary seat in Beirut, at Avenue President Suleiman Frangieh 52 in Baabda. Phones are open from Sunday to Thursday, 9:00 to 15:00 Syrian time. A visit to the consulate is arranged by email, and documents can be submitted in person or by post. If the consul refuses, he issues a decision, against which a complaint can be lodged with the Minister of Foreign Affairs within 7 days, through the consul. The certificate is collected in person or sent by post.
The burial permit is issued in Poland by the starost or the city president, and the application is filed by the family or an authorised funeral home. A copy of the death certificate or another document confirming the death is also required. If the family does not bring the deceased home, the consul asks the local authorities for a burial under Syrian law. We take over the correspondence and the Polish permit.
