Repatriation from Mongolia to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Mongolia to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in Ulaanbaatar. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Mongolia are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Mongolia
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Mongolia always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Mongolia are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Mongolia: Ulaanbaatar, visits arranged by email
Mongolia is served by the Polish Embassy in Ulaanbaatar. According to the gov.pl page, a visit about the certificate is arranged by email, and documents are submitted in person or by post. The consul issues the certificate promptly, at the latest within three days of the application. If the family decides not to bring the remains home, the consul asks the local authorities to bury them according to local law. The consul does not decide for the family on the method or place of burial, so we prepare this decision with you at the very beginning.
Mongolia lies far from Poland, so remains or an urn travel by air. The usual order: a death document from the local hospital or authorities, preparation of the body or cremation, consent for export, the flight, and on the Polish side the starosta's permit. We confirm the detailed requirements of this country's authorities on request, for your case.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the consul of the mission named on gov.pl: the Polish Embassy in Ulaanbaatar.
How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
