Procedure
Both France and the Republic of Moldova are parties to the Strasbourg Agreement on the Transfer of Corpses (1973). The body therefore travels with a mortuary passport (laissez-passer) issued in France. Under the agreement, the country of destination may not ask for other documents beyond the laissez-passer and the usual transport documents.
The laissez-passer is issued only when the health, administrative and legal rules of France have been met and the coffin meets the standards of the agreement. The funeral service in France prepares the body, the coffin and its certificates; we coordinate the rest and keep you informed.
Required documents
Usually needed: the French death certificate, the passport or identity document of the deceased, the documents of the applicant and the certificates of the funeral service. We confirm the list for your département.
