Repatriation from the United Kingdom to Moldova
If someone close to you has died in the United Kingdom, we help bring them home to the Republic of Moldova, working with your funeral director and the Moldovan embassy.
- Issuing authority and document
- The United Kingdom is not a party to the Strasbourg Agreement. In England and Wales, the coroner gives permission to move a body out of England (Form 103).
- Transport
- As a rule, by air to Chișinău International Airport (RMO). The route and the handover point in Moldova are agreed once the documents are ready.
- Timing
- We confirm the timeline once we have the documents. It depends on the local authorities, the Moldovan consulate where it is involved, and the transport available.
- Price
- Body (repatriation of remains): from 2 600 €
Ashes (urn): from 800 €
Country status under the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Transfer of Corpses: per the Council of Europe list (archived 20.05.2014) and the Netherlands treaty database; checked 11.10.2026.
Procedure
The United Kingdom is not a party to the Strasbourg Agreement on the Transfer of Corpses (1973), so the national rules of the United Kingdom apply, together with the requirements of the consulate of the Republic of Moldova. As a rule, the mortuary passport is then issued by an embassy or consulate of the Republic of Moldova.
In England and Wales, as a rule, the coroner must be notified before a body is taken abroad and must give permission on the 'Out of England' form (Form 103). The procedure in Scotland and Northern Ireland is different, and we confirm it for your case.
Required documents
Usually needed: the UK death certificate, the coroner's permission, the passport of the deceased, the certificates of the funeral director and the documents required by the Moldovan embassy. We confirm the list for your case.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the coroner involved?
In England and Wales, as a rule, a body cannot be taken abroad until the coroner has been notified and has given permission.

Can ashes be brought from the UK?
Yes. The documents for ashes differ from those for a body, and we confirm them for your case.
