Procedure
Both Portugal and the Republic of Moldova are parties to the Strasbourg Agreement on the Transfer of Corpses (1973). The body therefore travels with a mortuary passport (laissez-passer) issued in Portugal. Under the agreement, the country of destination may not ask for other documents beyond the laissez-passer and the usual transport documents.
According to Portugal's declaration under the agreement, the laissez-passer is issued by the Public Security Police (PSP) or, where it is not present, by the local municipal council (Câmara Municipal), in which case it is endorsed by the local health authority. We confirm the current practice for your city.
Required documents
Usually needed: the Portuguese death certificate, the passport of the deceased, the documents of the applicant and the certificates of the funeral service. We confirm the list for your case.
