Repatriation from Comoros to Moldova

Transport: By air: Comoros is an island state in the Indian Ocean and there is no land route to Europe. In a straight line it is about 6,700 km from Moroni to Chișinău (our own calculation). The undated Wikipedia destination table for Chișinău airport (RMO) lists no destination in sub-Saharan Africa; we have not checked timetables, so a route with connections is planned for each case.

What is confirmed

The British government's list of guides for deaths abroad (consulted 13.10.2026) has no guide for Comoros, and the British travel advice page has no information on repatriation. We found no official Comorian procedure for taking a body out of the country, so we do not describe one.

The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs page on deaths (consulted 13.10.2026) requires a mortuary passport for the international transport of a body; it is issued by Moldovan embassies or consulates, or by the local authorities of the Strasbourg Agreement states. Comoros is not among them.

Required documents

On the Moldovan side, a foreign death certificate must be legalised by the authorities of the state concerned (Ministry of Foreign Affairs page, 13.10.2026). The concrete list of Comorian documents (medical certificate, death record, transfer authorisations) has not been confirmed from an official source.

Comoros does not appear in the table of the Hague Apostille Convention (HCCH, consulted 13.10.2026), so we do not say that Comorian documents are apostilled. We clarify the legalisation route with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before ordering translations.
