Repatriation from Nicaragua to Poland

Procedure: Nicaragua
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Nicaragua always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Nicaragua are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Nicaragua: looked after by the embassy in Panama
Nicaragua is in the district of the Polish Embassy in Panama, together with Belize, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras and El Salvador. The consul in Panama accepts applications in person or by post and arranges the visit by email. The certificate can be collected in person or sent by post at the applicant's cost.
The embassy states that, besides the burial permit and the death document, other documents required in the host state may be needed. The consul informs about them depending on the country and the circumstances of death, so for Nicaragua we set the scope of papers only after speaking with the consulate. We take on that contact, the collection of documents on site, the choice of a local funeral home and the transport to Poland, so that the family does not have to travel between offices.
