Procedure: Bolivia
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Bolivia always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Bolivia are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Bolivia and the honorary consul in Santa Cruz
Bolivia is covered by the Polish Embassy in Lima, which also serves Peru and Ecuador. An Honorary Consulate of Poland operates in Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz de la Sierra), which matters when the death occurred in the east of the country, far from Lima. Which matters the honorary consul may accept we establish separately with the embassy in Lima.
The certificate for bringing remains or ashes home is issued by the consul on an application filed in person or by post. The deadline given by the embassy is promptly, and no later than three days after the application is filed. The certificate is collected in person or sent by post at the applicant's cost. The requirements on translations and the apostille for Bolivian documents we confirm with the embassy in your case before anything is sent to Lima. We also organise the onward transport to Poland.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the consul of the mission named on gov.pl: the Polish Embassy in Lima.
How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
