Repatriation from Guatemala to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Guatemala to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in Panama City. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Guatemala are collected.

Procedure: Guatemala
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Guatemala always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Guatemala are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Guatemala: the RENAP register and the Embassy in Panama
In Guatemala deaths are entered in the RENAP register, the national register of persons. Death registration is a service of its offices, and a copy of the record can be ordered online through the Portal Ciudadano. We arrange this document and assemble the remaining documents. The family does not have to look for the right counter in a Guatemalan office itself.
The consular case is handled by the Polish Embassy in Panama, which also covers Belize, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua and El Salvador. The appointment is arranged by email, and documents are submitted in person or by post. Besides the starosta's permit and the death document, the consul indicates further papers required by the local authorities, and we establish this in advance. Once the documents are ready, we take on the preparation of the remains and the transport to Poland, together with collection on arrival and the funeral ceremony the family plans.
