Procedure: Trinidad & Tobago
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Trinidad & Tobago always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Trinidad & Tobago are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Trinidad and Tobago: Port of Spain and Caracas
Trinidad and Tobago is covered by the Polish Embassy in Caracas. A Polish Honorary Consulate operates in Port of Spain; we establish the scope of its help separately. The certificate for bringing remains or ashes home is issued by the consul in Caracas. The application therefore goes to another country, and documents must be sent there.
Documents are filed in person or by post, the visit is arranged by email, and the consul issues the certificate promptly, no later than three days after the application is filed. Collection is in person or by post at the applicant's cost. We organise assembling the documents from the place of death, shipping to Venezuela, contact with the embassy and transport to Poland. The office in Trinidad that permits the removal of remains or ashes we establish in your case
In Trinidad and Tobago a death is registered at the District Registrar's Office nearest to where the person died, within one year, and registration is immediate. A medical certificate of the cause of death from the attending doctor and a valid photo ID of the informant are needed. If available, the deceased's ID and birth certificate also help. After one year, registration goes through the Civil Registry in Port of Spain or the nearest District Registrar's Office and requires an affidavit explaining the delay, and the case is subject to verification. This matters, because late papers can delay the consul's certificate in Caracas. We prepare the declaration with the informant's document and the medical certificate ourselves, together with the further route of the documents.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the consul of the mission named on gov.pl: the Polish Embassy in Caracas.
How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
