Repatriation from Barbados to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Barbados to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in Caracas. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Barbados are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Barbados
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Barbados always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Barbados are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Barbados: death record from St. Michael and the Embassy in Caracas
In Barbados deaths are recorded by the Registration Department, located in the Supreme Court complex on White Park Road in St. Michael. A copy of the death record can be collected there in person or ordered by post by sending an application to the Registrar of the Supreme Court. We arrange this document and take it through the following stages.
Consular matters are handled by the Polish Embassy in Caracas, which also covers Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. Its page requires a copy of the death record with an apostille, and for an urn also a cremation certificate and a funeral home statement that the ashes are in a sealed container. The appointment is arranged by email. We confirm with the embassy where the starosta's permit should be sent before dispatching the documents. After the consul's certificate, a funeral home prepares the remains for transport, and we organise carriage to Poland, collection on arrival and burial at the cemetery chosen by the family.
In Barbados death documents are issued by the Registration Department in the Supreme Court Complex on Whitepark Road. Registering a death there is free. The office lists the death certificate and the Cause of Death certificate as separate items. A mailed application must be completed in full and sent with a money order made out to the Registrar of the Supreme Court and a self-addressed return envelope with postage. A Polish Honorary Consulate also operates in Bridgetown, listed among the honorary consulates of the Embassy in Caracas. We confirm separately what help it can give. We prepare the applications, the money order and the posting abroad ourselves, and check every document against the Caracas consul's requirements.
