Repatriation from Colombia to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Colombia to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in Bogotá. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Colombia are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Colombia
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Colombia always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Colombia are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Colombia: Bogota and three honorary consulates
Colombia is the responsibility of the Polish Embassy in Bogota, which also covers Antigua and Barbuda and Saint Lucia. Outside the capital there are honorary consulates in Cali, Medellín and Cartagena. This is practical, because Colombia is large and the place of death may be hours by air from Bogota. We do not assume, however, that an honorary consul will issue the certificate; we check this with the embassy.
The certificate for bringing remains or ashes home is issued by the consul in Bogota. The application is filed in person or by post, and the decision is made promptly, no later than three days after filing. Collection is in person or by post at the applicant's cost. We confirm with the embassy the requirements for remains and for ashes and the rules on translating Colombian documents. We organise assembling the documents, contact with the consulate and transport to Poland.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the consul of the mission named on gov.pl: the Polish Embassy in Bogotá.
How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
