Repatriation from Haiti to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Haiti to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.

- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in Panama City. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.

- The body is carried by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Haiti are collected.

Procedure: Haiti
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Haiti always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Haiti are authenticated by legalisation if a Polish office asks for it (the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Haiti: the travel warning and the embassy in Panama
Haiti is handled by the Polish Embassy in Panama, which according to its gov.pl page also covers Belize, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Panama itself. Visits to the consular section require an appointment made through e-konsulat or by contacting the section, and urgent matters can also be reported outside working hours. We keep the family informed of the stage of the case, with no need for them to contact local offices.
The embassy has published a warning for travellers to Haiti: a notice from 2022 describes worsening security, advises limiting movement and stocking food, water and medicine, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against non-essential travel. For this reason we usually do not advise the family to travel there, and we run the formalities remotely with the local funeral home and the airline. We check the current Ministry notice in every case.
