Repatriation from Peru to Poland
We help bring the deceased from Peru to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or ashes.
- Issuing authority and document
- Export documents are issued by the authorities of the country of death; we confirm them in your case. Polish certificate: the Polish Embassy in Lima.
- Transport
- The body is conveyed by air as air cargo. We agree the arrival airport and the place of handover in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- We confirm the date once we have the documents. The Act provides that the starosta and the consul issue their documents within 3 days of the application at the latest (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries and Burial of the Dead). In practice, extra time is needed for the opinion of the district sanitary inspector (sanepid) and for delivery of the originals. How long matters take in the country of death depends on the local authorities.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Peru
This country is not a party to the Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses of 1973 (according to the Netherlands treaty database, as of 13 October 2026). Poland is not a party to it either, so in addition to documents from the country of death the Polish consul's certificate is needed.
This country is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention (according to the HCCH, as of 13 October 2026), so documents from it can be authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for this.
Peru: a death can be registered at any RENIEC office
According to RENIEC, a death in Peru can be registered at any RENIEC office in the country. Registration is free, the record is issued on the spot, and there is currently no deadline. You need a death certificate signed and stamped by a doctor (where no doctor is available, a sworn statement from a political, judicial or religious authority) and the deceased's DNI, or a sworn statement of its loss. This applies to deaths that occurred in Peru itself. RENIEC offices are open Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 16:45.
The Polish Embassy in Lima also serves Ecuador and Bolivia. We help the family gather the Peruvian documents and prepare the Polish side at the same time, so the application reaches the consul complete.
Besides the embassy in Lima, Poland has honorary consulates in the region in the Peruvian cities of Callao and Arequipa, in Quito in Ecuador and in Santa Cruz in Bolivia. The consulate in Arequipa receives from Monday to Friday between 9:00 and 13:00, and in emergencies until 19:00. The post in Guayaquil is currently vacant. The Consular Section of the Polish Embassy in Peru has its own duty phone for situations that require the consul's immediate involvement. For a family whose loved one died far from Lima, for example near Arequipa or in Santa Cruz, we help establish which point is geographically closest, and we confirm the scope of its work in a transport case with the embassy.
