Repatriation from Liechtenstein to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Liechtenstein to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish Embassy in Bern. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- By a specialised hearse or by air. We agree the route and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Liechtenstein are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Liechtenstein
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Liechtenstein always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Liechtenstein are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Liechtenstein: the ambassador in Bern
Since 1992 the function of Poland's diplomatic representative in Liechtenstein has been performed by the Polish ambassador to Switzerland, based in Bern. Liechtenstein's interests in Poland are represented by the Embassy of Switzerland. We confirm the competent Polish post for this country in your specific case. Before documents are submitted we check that copies and stamps are complete, and we inform the family of every step.
The order of steps is always similar. First a local document confirming the death and the local authorities' consent to take the remains out of the country, then in Poland the starosta's permit, followed by the consul's certificate. With the full set of documents we book transport of the body or the urn to Poland and arrange collection. We coordinate these steps and the contact with the family and the competent post, so that no document is produced in the wrong order. We clarify the detailed requirements of this country's authorities for your specific case on request.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the consul of the mission named on gov.pl: the Polish Embassy in Bern.
How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
