Procedure: Moldova

Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Moldova always requires the Polish consul's certificate.

Documents from Moldova are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).

Moldova: deaths are registered by the ASP

Consular matters for Moldova are handled by the Polish consular office in Chisinau. A visit is arranged by email, documents can be submitted in person or by post, and the page has a Romanian version. The consul issues the certificate promptly, no later than three days after the application is filed.

On the Moldovan side deaths are registered by the Public Services Agency (ASP): at its branches, online, at the Unified Public Service Centres, or at Moldovan missions abroad. Registration usually happens automatically on the basis of the medical certificate from the electronic health system, so the family does not have to report anything. If the deceased was a foreigner, his or her ID document is needed, although the death would be registered even without it. Where there is no medical certificate, a court ruling is required. We check this at the start so that the death certificate is ready for the next steps.

The Polish consul's certificate

The certificate is issued by the Polish consul with territorial competence for this country. We confirm the mission in your case.

How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
