Repatriation from Finland to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from Finland to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish consul confirmed in your case. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- By a specialised hearse or by air. We agree the route and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from Finland are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: Finland
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Finland always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Finland are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Finland: the consulate in Helsinki
In Finland the certificate is handled by the territorially competent Polish consular office, and the visit is arranged by email with the consulate in Helsinki. Documents can be submitted in person or by post. The certificate is issued promptly, within three days of filing at the latest, and can be collected in person or sent by post at the applicant's cost.
The consulate's page describes two documents: the permit from Poland and a copy of the death certificate or another document confirming the death. If the family does not take the remains to Poland, the consul asks the local authorities to arrange a burial under Finnish law, but does not cover the costs or choose the method or place of burial for the family. It is therefore worth settling a plan before filing. We organise contact with the consulate, the documents on the Finnish side and the transport to Poland. We clarify the detailed requirements of this country's authorities on request in your case.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the Polish consul with territorial competence for this country. We confirm the mission in your case.
How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
