Repatriation from North Macedonia to Poland
We organise bringing the deceased from North Macedonia to Poland: documents from the country of death, Polish permits and transport of the body or urn.
- Issuing authority and document
- Certificate: the Polish consul confirmed in your case. The export permit comes from the authorities of the country of death.
- Transport
- By a specialised hearse or by air. We agree the route and the handover point in Poland with the family.
- Timing
- The starosta and the consul have up to 3 days for their documents (Article 14(5) of the Act on Cemeteries). We give the full timing once the documents from North Macedonia are collected.
- Price
- We will quote the price once we know the details.
Procedure: North Macedonia
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from North Macedonia always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from North Macedonia are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
North Macedonia: the embassy in Skopje
In North Macedonia the case is handled by the Polish embassy in Skopje, where the visit is arranged by email. Documents can be filed in person or by post, and the consul issues the certificate promptly, no later than three days after the application is filed. What is needed is the permit of the starosta or city president and a copy of the death certificate or another document confirming the death.
If the family does not bring the remains to Poland, the consul asks the local authorities to bury the deceased under local law, in a public cemetery at public expense. The consul takes on no financial obligations and does not choose the method or place of burial for the family. Our service concerns the way home: we gather the documents, contact the embassy and organise transport to Poland. We clarify the detailed requirements of this country's authorities on request in your case.
The Polish consul's certificate

How to get them: the starosta's permit and the consul's certificate.
