Repatriation from Tonga to Poland

Procedure: Tonga
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Tonga always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Tonga are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Tonga: the Polish Embassy in Wellington
Tonga falls under the Polish Embassy in Wellington. The same post serves New Zealand, Kiribati, Samoa and Tuvalu. The appointment is booked through the e-Konsulat system, and documents can be submitted in person or by post.
The embassy's page requires a copy of the death record with an apostille. For an urn, a cremation certificate and a funeral home statement that the ashes are in a sealed, damage-resistant container are also needed. We arrange the local death document in Tonga, the apostille and the remaining papers so that the embassy receives a complete set. One contact person on our side is enough for the family. Once the documents are ready, we take on the preparation of the remains and the transport to Poland, together with collection on arrival and the funeral ceremony the family plans.
