Procedure: Fiji
Poland is not a party to the 1973 Strasbourg Agreement on the Conveyance of Corpses, so bringing a body from Fiji always requires the Polish consul's certificate.
Documents from Fiji are authenticated with an apostille if a Polish office asks for it (the country is a party to the Hague Convention, HCCH, as of 13 October 2026).
Fiji: your case is handled by the consulate in Sydney
Fiji belongs to the district of the Polish Consulate General in Sydney, which also covers Australia (except the ACT), Papua New Guinea, Nauru, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. The application is filed through the e-Konsulat system, or in person or by post, and the starosta's permit is sent to the consulate in Sydney. Before documents are submitted we check that copies and stamps are complete, and we inform the family of every step.
In Fiji a death is registered by the Births, Deaths & Marriages Registry of the Ministry of Justice in Suva. The papers needed are a medical certificate of the cause of death or a letter from the Ministry of Health, and the reporting person's ID. For a foreigner, a certified birth certificate or the passport data page is added, and for a marriage concluded abroad also the marriage certificate. We prepare this set of documents together with the family before starting the Polish part of the formalities.
The Polish consul's certificate
The certificate is issued by the consul of the mission named on gov.pl: the Polish Consulate General in Sydney.
