XREQUIEM brings the deceased home from Croatia to Ukraine from €3,000: from Zagreb, Split or an island to your town, usually by road through the EU. We file for the sprovodnica, prepare the papers for the Embassy in Zagreb and supply the hermetic coffin. The road home takes from 24 hours.
“You were always available, whatever the time…” — Віта Х. “Everything was organised with great dignity, professionally and with attention to every detail.” — Тамара Ю. “Every question was resolved promptly, with respect and attention to detail.” — Olha B. “…your support, compassion, sense of responsibility and professionalism meant a great deal to us.” — Ірина Б. “It all went quickly and professionally…” — Оля К. from €3,000 including documents, the coffin and transport to your town. The exact price is named within 5 minutes.
The price includes:
What changes the total: the city and distance, the route (road or air), the country’s documents, preparation of the body. More about prices →
Summary. Croatia is close enough that we can often do without a flight. From an island the body first crosses to the mainland. The funeral in Ukraine is extra. Tell us the city and the address and we will give you the exact price within 5 minutes.
If it has just happened
For some Ukrainians Croatia is a place of work, for others it is the sea and a holiday. When a death happens there, the family has to deal with the Croatian language, a hospital, a sanitary inspector and the Ukrainian embassy all at once. We take this part on and keep you informed about every step.
We ask where the person died. After a death at home, the police or the ambulance service calls a mrtvozornik, the doctor who examines the body and issues the burial permit. We explain what to do until he arrives and give you the price.
We speak to the hospital and the morgue. We agree how the deceased will be kept until departure.
The death certificate and, as a rule, the sprovodnica, an accompanying travel document from the sanitary inspector.
We take the Croatian certificate of no prohibited items to the Embassy for legalisation and translate the death certificate into Ukrainian.
Croatian rules allow a hermetic metal coffin or a sealed bag with a valve and filter, placed inside a wooden coffin. Ukraine accepts only the sealed metal coffin, so that is what we use.
Across the Ukrainian border and on to the address you give us.

A body leaving Croatia usually needs an accompanying travel document, the sprovodnica. The sanitary inspector issues it, and we submit the application.
We submit the application for the sprovodnica ourselves and make sure the details in it match the other documents. One mistake in a name or a date can delay the deceased at the border.
The exact list depends on the case; we check it before filing.
Consular matters for Ukrainians in Croatia are handled by the Embassy of Ukraine in Zagreb. Wherever the death occurred, whether in Split, in Dubrovnik or on an island, we prepare the documents for the Ukrainian side for this Embassy.
Before Croatian papers go to the Embassy, they are certified and translated into Ukrainian. We do this. More in the article The Ukrainian consulate when someone dies abroad.
Croatia is closer to Ukraine than most countries of Western Europe. So we can often do without a plane: the deceased travels in a specialist vehicle from our fleet through EU countries to the Ukrainian border, and then on to your town. If speed matters more, we add an air leg to an airport near the Ukrainian border. We do not promise direct flights to Ukraine.
We collect the deceased from Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, Osijek, Zadar, Dubrovnik and from any other Croatian town, resort or island: from a hospital, a morgue or from another place where the deceased is. From an island the road is longer, so the route and the amount are worked out for your case.
Time. The road takes 24 hours or more from collection, and a flight, if there is one, from 2.5 hours. If the person died in a Croatian hospital, an autopsy to establish the cause of death is mandatory there. That delays the death certificate and then the sprovodnica. The border queue adds time too.
The coffin. For air transport from Croatia a hermetically sealed metal coffin inside a wooden one is usually needed. We check the exact requirements with the sanitary inspector and the carrier. Ukraine has its own rule: the metal coffin must be sealed and hermetic. We choose one that meets both requirements.
Embalming. Embalming is decided by the route and by what the carrier demands. We advise you as soon as the route is known.

The price includes:
Coffin of your choice and urn: free of charge.
The “from” price covers the whole way. In Croatia an island changes it most, because the body first has to cross to the mainland. Your town and the coffin matter too. A funeral in Ukraine is priced separately.

For Croatia the price starts from €3,000 for the whole way. Name the Croatian town and your town in Ukraine, and we will give you the figure while we are still on the phone.
The road itself takes from 24 hours, a flight from 2.5 hours. Paperwork takes longer: the death certificate, the sprovodnica and the legalisation at the Embassy. The Croatian transport application names the border crossing and the vehicle registration, so we agree the route early.
It makes the journey a little longer: first the body has to be taken from the island to the mainland. We arrange this ourselves. The documents are prepared in the same way: if a sprovodnica is needed, the sanitary inspector at the place of death issues it, and the Ukrainian papers come from the Embassy in Zagreb. The family's first steps are described on the page What to do if a loved one dies abroad.
It is the accompanying travel document for the deceased. We submit the application and make sure the details in it match the other documents.
Your contact details are enough, plus the deceased's passport or a photo of it, if you have it. We prepare the application for the sprovodnica, the package for the Embassy in Zagreb and the translations. If your own signature is needed anywhere, we will say so in the first conversation.
Usually not. Croatian rules let an authorised person file the transport application, not only the family. So we deal with the hospital, the inspector and the Embassy, and send you copies via Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram. What you can do from home is described in the article If the family cannot travel abroad.
We advise on embalming once the route and the carrier are known. For a flight, Croatian rules require a hermetic metal coffin or a sealed bag with a filter inside a wooden coffin; Ukraine accepts only the sealed metal one. More in the article Coffin and embalming for bringing a body to Ukraine.
That depends on the policy: some cover the whole transport, others only the way to the border. Send us a photo of it. Croatian rules let a foreign insurer file the transport application itself, so we handle the insurer for you. We tell you about any costs outside the policy in advance.
From any town in Croatia: from Zagreb, from the coast, from the islands. The place affects only the route and the time on the road.
We can do that. An urn from Croatia crosses the border with the same papers as a coffin: a death certificate and a certificate of no prohibited items, legalised in Zagreb. Croatia has crematoria only in Zagreb and Osijek, so the urn is often already there. The price is from €800. More in Transport of an urn with ashes to Ukraine.
