XREQUIEM collects the deceased from any city or resort in Egypt and brings them home to Ukraine: by air to an airport near Ukraine, then in our vehicle. The price starts at €2,800 and the journey takes from 24 hours after collection. We handle embalming, the Egyptian permits, the Embassy in Cairo and the border.
“You were always available, whatever the time…” — Віта Х. “Everything was organised with great dignity, professionally and with attention to every detail.” — Тамара Ю. “Every question was resolved promptly, with respect and attention to detail.” — Olha B. “…your support, compassion, sense of responsibility and professionalism meant a great deal to us.” — Ірина Б. “It all went quickly and professionally…” — Оля К. from €2,800 including documents, the coffin and transport to your town. We will give you the exact price within 5 minutes.
Summary. Egypt releases a body only after embalming, so every hour counts. The papers are the «yellow» death certificate, the embalming certificate, the burial permit and the Expedition Permit. The air leg takes from 2.5 hours. Tell us the departure city and the destination, and within 5 minutes we name the price; the funeral in Ukraine is extra.
If it has just happened
In Egypt, death often catches a family on holiday in Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh or Cairo, where the papers are issued in Arabic. XREQUIEM manages the whole case.
We ask which city, hotel or hospital the body is in now, and whether there is an insurance policy. First we arrange the embalming, because there are only 24 hours for it.
Egypt will not release a body for transport without embalming. The health authorities then issue a certificate of embalming.
The Egyptian health authorities issue it. This is the so-called “yellow” certificate, which states the cause of death.
The local sanitary authority gives a burial permit. A separate permit, the Expedition Permit, allows the body to be sent.
The Egyptian death certificate is in Arabic. We have it and the other papers translated into Ukrainian and certified, then take them to the Embassy of Ukraine in Cairo, which registers the death and prepares the documents for the border.
The coffin is lined with zinc and sealed shut. Before the flight it is placed in a wooden case. A representative of the Egyptian Ministry of Health seals everything for customs.
The departure airport depends on where the deceased is: Cairo, Hurghada or Sharm el-Sheikh. The plane lands near Ukraine, our vehicle takes the coffin on from there, and at home we hand it over to the family.

In Egypt a death is registered at the district health office, and the papers there are issued in Arabic. To take the body out, you need these documents.
To the Egyptian documents we add what the Ukrainian border requires, including the certificate of no prohibited items, certified by the consulate.
Full list: Documents. First hours: What to do if a loved one dies abroad.
Even if the person died in Hurghada or Sharm el-Sheikh, the case goes to the Embassy of Ukraine in Cairo, in the Maadi district: Ukraine has no other mission in Egypt. It keeps an emergency line for the death of Ukrainian citizens.
Usually you need not travel from the resort to Cairo: we prepare the papers for the Embassy. Details in the article The Ukrainian consulate when someone dies abroad.
There is sea between Egypt and Ukraine, so a flight is unavoidable: the plane brings the coffin to an airport near Ukraine, and our vehicle drives it on to your town.
We collect the deceased from Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh, Alexandria, Luxor, Marsa Alam and from any other Egyptian town or resort: from a hospital or from any other place where the body is. Name the hotel or the hospital where the body is now: it decides which airport the flight leaves from.
From Egypt, the coffin flies as freight in the hold of a scheduled passenger flight or on a freighter. A direct flight to Ukraine is not something we can guarantee.
Our vehicle meets the coffin at the airport and crosses the border.
From 24 hours after collection. The longest waits are for the Egyptian permits and the flight. In Egypt, the authorities order a post-mortem without the family's consent. While the cause is being established, the certificate may say «not determined», and that does not stop the repatriation.
Egypt's requirements for the coffin are these: it is lined with zinc and soldered shut, and the outside is hardwood. For the flight it goes into a wooden case as well, and a representative of the Ministry of Health seals the coffin and the case. The Ukrainian border requires a hermetic metal coffin under official seal, and a coffin like this meets that requirement. More on the Air transport and Coffins pages.
For Egypt the price starts at €2,800. It covers the body's whole way home, the flight too, and we calculate the exact sum for your circumstances. A funeral in Ukraine is paid for separately.
The price includes:
Coffin of your choice and urn: free of charge.
The sum depends on where we collect from (Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh or another city) and which airport the coffin flies from. The airline's fare on the day, your town in Ukraine and the insurance matter too. We find this out in the first call and name the sum then. Other countries' prices are on the Prices page.

From €2,800. The final sum depends on the city in Egypt, the flight and what the insurer will pay. Call or leave a request and we will quote the whole way home. A funeral in Ukraine is charged separately.
In Egypt a body must be embalmed no later than 24 hours after death. Under local law an unembalmed body is buried within 24 hours. This requirement can be postponed, for example while waiting for a decision from relatives abroad, and we will arrange the delay. So if you want the person to be buried in Ukraine, call us at once. We are available around the clock.
From 24 hours after collection. The time goes mainly on the Egyptian permits, the Embassy and a free slot on a plane, so we handle them all at once.
By law the tour company must insure the tourist: medical insurance and accident insurance. Send us a photo of the policy and we will talk to the insurer ourselves. Do not agree anything with a local funeral home until the insurer has approved it, or the compensation may not be paid. If the policy covers only part of the journey, we will tell you the remaining amount in advance. More in the article Insurance and bringing a body home.
Yes. Without it Egypt will not release the body, and the health authorities' certificate of embalming is one of the export documents. More about preparing the body.
One lined with zinc and sealed shut, with hardwood on the outside and, for the flight, a wooden case around it. A representative of the Egyptian Ministry of Health seals it. This coffin also meets the requirements of the Ukrainian border.
Everything goes through the Embassy of Ukraine in Cairo, the only Ukrainian mission in Egypt. You need not go there: we prepare its papers, and you can fly home.
From you we need the deceased's passport or a photo of it, your passport, proof that you are related, a power of attorney for us and a photo of the policy, if there is one. The Arabic documents, translations and the Embassy are on us.
Call us first: in Egypt, there is little time for embalming. Sign nothing with an agency at the hotel or hospital, and pay nothing, until you know the full price of the way home. More: What to do if a loved one dies abroad.
Yes, if there are already ashes: urn transport costs from €800. Bear in mind that Egypt has no official crematoria. At the Ukrainian border, the urn needs the death certificate and a consulate-certified certificate of no prohibited items. More on the Urn transport page.
