When a foreigner dies in Azerbaijan, an autopsy is compulsory, and the death certificate is issued only after the findings on form AZS-106. We work on the mortuary, the ASAN registration and the Embassy in Baku at the same time, so the journey home can start as soon as the body is released. If it has just happened
The local authorities work in Azerbaijani and do not usually offer services in English, so a family struggles on its own. You do not need to look for anyone else, XREQUIEM handles the whole way home.
Baku, Ganja or another city? A hospital or a mortuary? Is form AZS-106 already issued? Your answers set the price.
If the person died outside a hospital, the emergency services attend and inform the district police, and the body is taken to the district mortuary. For foreigners an autopsy is compulsory, and until then the body stays in the mortuary. The organs are kept with the body after the autopsy.
The district Medical Court Examination Department issues the medical death certificate on form AZS-106. Without it the death certificate is not issued.
It is issued in Azerbaijani by the district registration department or the ASAN service. We take this step ourselves. Without the certificate neither burial nor transport can take place.
We have the Azerbaijani certificate translated into Ukrainian and take it to the Embassy in Baku. The consul registers the death and certifies the papers for the border.
A flight from Baku needs a hermetic metal coffin under seal. We agree embalming with the airline before booking.
The flight from Azerbaijan lands in a country next to Ukraine. There our vehicle takes over and drives to the address you give us.

Azerbaijani papers come from district offices and ASAN, while the Embassy in Baku certifies the Ukrainian ones. The exact set depends on where and how the person died, so we check it locally.
According to the UK government's guidance for families, the local authorities do not provide services in English, so every document has to be translated.

Ukraine has one mission in Azerbaijan: the Embassy in Baku. The consul needs the Azerbaijani certificate in a certified Ukrainian translation.

Several borders lie between Azerbaijan and Ukraine, so a flight is unavoidable. We plan the route around the city where the body is now.
We collect the deceased from Baku, Ganja, Sumgait, Mingachevir, Shirvan, Lankaran and from any other town or district of Azerbaijan: from a hospital or a morgue. Mortuaries there are usually attached to hospitals, and cold storage is available in Baku; in the regions conditions can be more basic, so tell us the city at once. It decides which airport the flight leaves from. Azerbaijan's main international airport is Heydar Aliyev, 20 km from Baku.
The coffin flies as cargo, in the hold of a passenger flight from Baku or on a freighter. Do not count on a direct flight to Ukraine.
Our vehicle meets the coffin and crosses the border.
Once we have collected the body, the journey takes from 24 hours. The longer wait is for the autopsy, form AZS-106 and the ASAN certificate.

If your relative is already buried in Azerbaijan, we arrange the exhumation and bring the remains home to Ukraine for reburial. Our exhumation costs from €500 plus the cost of transport, with no prepayment.
From €2,500 to your town in Ukraine. The final figure depends on the city in Azerbaijan we collect from, the flight and the insurance. We give it after the first call. A funeral in Ukraine is priced separately.
The road part takes from 24 hours after collection. The wait is mostly for form AZS-106, the ASAN certificate, the Embassy in Baku and a flight. We push all of them at once.
According to the UK government's guidance for families, in Azerbaijan foreigners who die are always autopsied, usually within a day, at times without the family's consent, and no fee is charged. The body stays in the mortuary until the autopsy is done, and is then released for burial or transport. We stay in touch with the mortuary and tell you when the body is released.
The death certificate. It requires the medical death certificate on form AZS-106 from the district Medical Court Examination Department and a copy of the passport. We obtain them ourselves.
The airline taking the coffin from Baku decides. If it requires embalming, we arrange it in Azerbaijan before departure. More about preparing the body.

Usually not: we handle the mortuary, ASAN and the Embassy in Baku without you and send updates by messenger. If your own signature is needed somewhere, we warn you. See also When the family cannot travel.
From you: the deceased's passport or a photo of it, your passport, proof of kinship and a power of attorney. Form AZS-106, the ASAN certificate and the translations for Baku are our job.
It will if the policy includes repatriation of remains. Send us a photo of the policy and we will write to the insurer. Pay nothing before the insurer agrees, or you may not get the money back. More: Insurance and bringing a body home.
There are no crematoria in Azerbaijan, so ashes cannot be obtained there. If cremation has already been carried out in another country, transporting the urn costs from €800.
