Body Repatriation from Vietnam to Ukraine
XREQUIEM brings the deceased home from any city in Vietnam to Ukraine. We register the death locally, obtain the apostille, pass the border quarantine, prepare the three-layer coffin, and deal with the Embassy in Hanoi. The coffin flies with a connection to an airport near Ukraine, and our vehicle drives it to your city. Allow from 72 hours; the price goes into the contract.

What affects the cost: the city in Vietnam, flights and layovers, embalming, the city in Ukraine. More about prices →
In brief. Vietnam has joined the Apostille Convention, so from September 11, 2026, its documents carry an apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs instead of embassy legalization. A body leaves Vietnam only in a three-layer coffin with a sealed zinc liner, after a quarantine declaration at the border. The coffin flies to an airport in a country next to Ukraine and continues by hearse; allow from 72 hours.

If it just happened
- Call us anytime. We will explain what to tell the hospital or, if the death happened elsewhere, the police, and then deal with them ourselves.
- Find the insurance policy. For tourists, it often covers repatriation.
- Name two cities: where it happened and the destination. The deceased's passport will be needed later.
What to do if someone died in Vietnam?
XREQUIEM runs the case with partners in Vietnam who speak the language and know the local rules. We stay with it from the hospital to the family in Ukraine.
We listen and state the price
We ask which Vietnamese city the death happened in, whether the body is in a hospital or the police are involved, and which local papers you already hold. Then we name the price and fix it in the contract.
We obtain the death document
The hospital (or the police, if the death occurred outside a hospital) issues a death notice (giấy báo tử). Based on this, the local civil registry office registers the death and issues an extract (trích lục khai tử). Documents issued by foreign authorities must be certified for this registration, unless exempt.

We certify with an apostille and translate
Vietnam acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention; since September 11, 2026, Vietnamese documents are certified with an apostille. Only Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic raised objections to Vietnam's accession; Ukraine is not among them. In Vietnam, the apostille is affixed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam (Decree 293/2026/NĐ-CP of 23.07.2026).

We handle the case at the Embassy in Hanoi
Ukraine has no consulates general in Vietnam, so all the papers go to the Embassy in Hanoi. The consul there registers the death and certifies the documents for the Ukrainian border.
We prepare the body and the coffin
For cross-border transport, Vietnam requires a three-layer coffin: the inner layer must be zinc or another durable leak-proof material, containing an absorbent and soldered shut; the middle layer must be wood; the outer layer must be plywood.
Vietnamese rules do not ask for embalming; the three-layer coffin is what they require. An airline on a connecting route may set its own conditions, so we settle this on the first day.
We declare the body and pass quarantine
A body, remains, or ashes transported across the border of Vietnam must be declared to the quarantine service. Document verification takes up to 15 minutes, and the inspection takes up to an hour; afterward, a quarantine certificate is issued.

We bring them home
There is no direct flight from Vietnam: the coffin flies with a connection to an airport near the Ukrainian border, and our hearse takes it on to your city. There, we hand the body over to the family.

- To register the death, the consul needs the Vietnamese extract (trích lục khai tử) with an apostille from Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a Ukrainian translation.
- The consul issues the first Ukrainian death certificate without a consular fee.
- For burial assistance in Ukraine, the consul provides a certificate that the family submits to the social security office.
- A certificate confirming there are no unauthorized items inside the body or coffin is issued by the authority of the country of death and certified by the Consulate of Ukraine. Without it, the body cannot cross the Ukrainian border.
How to transport a body from Vietnam to Ukraine
Where we collect the body from
From Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Haiphong, resorts, and any other city: from a hospital, morgue, or funeral home. We work with partners in Vietnam, so the case on the ground is handled by people who know the local rules and language.
Plane plus hearse
There are no flights to Ukraine, so the coffin flies with a connection and lands in a neighboring country. Before departure, the body passes the quarantine inspection at the Vietnamese border; after landing, our vehicle takes over.
Transit time
From 72 hours. The paperwork takes longest: the Vietnamese death registration, the apostille, and the Embassy. So we prepare the Vietnamese and Ukrainian documents at the same time.
Coffin for export from Vietnam
